Innovation Challenge - Color Coded Installation Manuals

Project Statement

The goal of this project was to create color‑coded, bilingual installation manuals that make roll‑up door installation safer, faster, and more intuitive. By developing a system of matching colors, shapes, and icons across both the product and the manual, the instructions empower installers of all experience levels—whether English‑ or Spanish‑speaking—to complete the process accurately and confidently.

Financial Impact
$630,000 Cost Savings (Combination of RMA’s for missing material, damaged product by installation and injuries caused by installation)

On average, 65 hours given back to the customer per job (time/cost savings)

Reduces direct man hour cost by 72% per job

$1,000,000 Revenue Generated (estimated yearly savings)

"Hi, I’m Diego, General Manager of Barracuda Steel Works. I know that the implementation of the color and shape coding of hallway systems will reduce my cost of man hours making it easier for me to have non-skilled personnel on site and maintaining our productivity levels. It also could reduce the language barrier for laborers. And finally, standardize the quality of installation. I can’t wait to see this innovation in the field."
